Volunteer Profile: Carol Ann Brumpton

Carol Ann volunteering in the Cancer Centre's Garden of Hope

Carol Ann has been a dedicated volunteer in the Garden of Hope in the Cancer Centre for almost three years. With a smiling face and cheery greeting, she brightens the day of those who come through the doors on Monday and Wednesday mornings between 10am and noon. Carol Ann first came through those same doors as a patient and felt a little overwhelmed as no one was there to guide her. It was this feeling that made her determined to become a volunteer there!

She became a Patient and Family Advisor first about a year before the desk was in place in the Garden, and continues to sit on several committees. It has become a perfect fit for Carol Ann to be in the Garden of Hope as she has worked diligently to make it a very welcoming place and the comments made by patients reflect that feeling. One of the best was from a patient who said that they like to come on a Wednesday because someone is actually there at the desk! It makes Carol Ann feel greatly appreciated!

Carol Ann keeps her cheery disposition in part due to her healthy habit of walking or biking almost every day for about an hour. She is unique in the fact that she has tented in every province in Canada! Keep up the great work, Carol Ann! You are an inspiration to everyone!
