Shaping the Future of Healthcare in Northwestern Ontario

Focus group meeting

Since January this year, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) has been holding a number of focus group sessions to ask participants “What does your hospital look like in 2020?” Sessions are being held with TBRHSC’s 5 Partners in Health including – the Board of Directors, academic leaders, internal staff, managers, physicians, policy makers, and community members, including Francophone and Aboriginal residents, as well as newcomers to Canada – in order to gather input and shape a new Strategic Plan.

“Research and experience have demonstrated that a strategic plan is most effective and relevant when it is based on robust community engagement,” says Tracie Smith, Senior Director, Communications and Engagement.

Fifty-eight of TBRHSC’s volunteers and volunteer Patient Family Advisors came out on February 9 to share their ideas about the health sciences centre’s Strategic Directions and how best to realize success over the next five years. Topics included Patient Experience, Seniors’ Health, Comprehensive Clinical Care, Aboriginal Health and Acute Mental Health.

If you would like to help shape a plan that will drive patient care at TBRHSC over the course of the next five years, we invite you to get in touch with us via e-mail: lindseyl@tbh.net or call (807) 684-6010.
