Stroke Program

The Stroke Program is comprised of Northwestern Ontario Regional Stroke Network, the Regional Stroke Unit and the Stroke Prevention Clinic.

Regional Stroke Unit (RSU): The RSU is located at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on 2C and is a specialized unit dedicated to the management of stroke patients and staffed by an experienced interdisciplinary stroke team members.

Northwestern Ontario Regional Stroke Network(NWORSN): NWORSN is comprised of a Medical Lead and regional roles to support the uptake of Canadian Stroke Best Practices and seeks to optimize stroke care. Regional Stroke Network initiatives span across the region and the continuum of care which encompasses Awareness & Prevention, Pre-Hospital & Acute Care and Rehabilitation & Community.

Stroke Prevention Clinic (SPC): The stroke prevention clinic promotes continuity of care between acute care facilities, the patient, their family and caregivers, and their primary care providers. This outpatient clinic is for patients 17 years old and older, who are presenting with a history of transient ischemic attack (TIA), mild stroke symptoms or previous stroke.
