The automatic response is to worry. It could be nothing, or it may change your life. For Cheryl, when she received the phone call after her routine breast screening mammogram, it started a journey. One that she has faced with plenty of courage and positivity.
We all know the Emergency Department is busy. But did you know that the clinical lab tucked away directly below Emerg is just as busy? There are about 180 lab professionals working in Laboratory Services at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, performing over 7,500 tests per day.

Medical tests like breast screening mammograms can often provoke feelings of fear and uncertainty in patients; whether it is the test itself or waiting for the results. Preventive tests like mammograms are important to find breast cancers when they are small, less likely to have spread and more likely to be treated successfully.
