Hospital Starts New Environmental Services Internship Program

Aysha McNally has joined our Hospital team as the program’s first intern.

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre has developed a new Environmental Services Internship Program. The program aims to build a robust stewardship program that will provide our facility an opportunity to expand our existing environmental goals, meet new regulatory requirements.

Aysha McNally has joined our Hospital team as the program’s first intern.  She is a 4th year Environmental Studies student at Lakehead University who will be graduating in the spring with an Honors Bachelor degree in Environmental Studies. Through this program she will be able to learn from our Hospital’s award recognized environmental programs and gain experience in reducing our environmental footprint.

Aysha will be focusing on a number of environmental aspects at our Hospital, including waste audits, research on upcoming provincial and federal regulations, assistance with our Ontario Hospital Association Green Scorecard, Climate Change Resiliency Toolkit and future energy programs.

Going green and being as environmentally friendly as possible has been a long-standing priority of the Hospital, and recognizes that the health and wellbeing of patients and families is connected to the environment that they live in. In 2015, our Hospital was honoured with the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce Environmental Stewardship Award which is presented to the organization that best exemplifies environmentally sustainable operations through their normal course of business and in day-to-day operations.
