Cardiovascular Rehabilitation
Recovering from a heart attack or other event related to cardiovascular disease can be difficult and frightening. Often, we don’t know where to start. Our doctor may give us some tips about diet and exercise, but we can quickly become overloaded with information.
That’s why our Hospital developed our local Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program. This unique program helps those recovering from cardiovascular disease get the guided exercise, education, and counselling they need. The program is designed to help people lead a more independent and healthy lifestyle. Participants will learn more about their risk factors and how to reduce them with strategies for living an active, healthy, smoke-free life.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our team developed a 16-week hybrid program to ensure those recovering can still access education, care, and individualized exercise prescription development, while also physical distancing. Your care may be offered in person, virtually, or a combination of both depending on circumstances. We will provide you with more information and choose the most appropriate stream when you are accepted into the program.
Our Team, Your Lifestyle
The program’s interprofessional team is made up of many different health specialists who come together to help find strategies that work best for you. These health professionals include:

What Is Cardiovascular Disease Rehabilitation?
Cardiovascular disease rehabilitation is a program designed to help you manage your cardiovascular disease, reduce your risk of another heart-related event, and help you lead healthy, more independent lifestyle.
The Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program helps you in several different ways by providing education, guided exercise, and personal counselling (diet and psychosocial). We focus on educating and motivating participants to understand their risk factors, and to be more active, eat a healthy diet, be smoke-free, and to manage their stress. We foster a Patient and Family Centred Care environment and encourage families and loved ones to take part throughout our newly developed 16-week hybrid program, including both virtual and in person sessions.
