Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Welcomes New Board of Directors

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre celebrated another year of success at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Corporation on Thursday, June 25. Five 3-year and one 1-year Board of Directors vacancies were filled.
Returning to the Board of Directors for three-year terms are John Friday, Pat Lang, and John Hatton; returning for a one-year term is Douglas Judson. New to the Board of Directors for three-year terms are Dr. Andrew Dean and Dr. Pamela Wakewich.
Continuing their terms of office on the Board are Matt Simeoni, Nathalie Coppola, Michael Hardy, Gordon Wickham, Anita Jean, Joy Wakefield, and Gary Whitney.
Returning as a Community Member on the Resource Planning Committee is Kathleen Sawdo. New Community Members Glen Currie, Michael Pelletier, and Monique Rocheleau were appointed by the Board to various Committees.
Ending his term of office is Grant Walsh, who joined the Hospital Board in 2011 with a desire to ensure that the residents of Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario receive the medical and health care services they deserve. During his tenure on the Board, he has served at some point on each of the Board Committees and has taken on the role of 1st Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair and most recently Treasurer. We thank Grant for his years of dedicated service to patients and families in our region.
The Board includes the following ex-officio Directors:
- Jean Bartkowiak, President and CEO
- Meaghan Sharp, Interim Chief Nursing Executive
- Dr. S. Zaki Ahmed, Chief of Staff
- Dr. Sarita Verma, Dean, President and CEO, Northern Ontario School of Medicine
- Dr. Walid Sharour, President, Professional Staff Association
At the Inaugural meeting of the Board of Directors, held immediately following the AGM, the Officers of the Corporation were elected as follows:
- Chair – Matt Simeoni
- 1st Vice Chair – John Friday
- 2nd Vice Chair – Gordon Wickham
- Treasurer – John Hatton
- Patient Safety and Quality of Care Committee
Patricia Lang was elected as Chair of the Patient Safety and Quality of Care Committee.
