During the third week of October, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) joined communities all across Canada in celebrating Waste Reduction Week. The goal is to educate and inspire people to reduce waste and save resources – something TBRHSC does on a daily basis.

TBRHSC has done such a great job embracing waste reduction that they were recently honoured with the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce Environmental Stewardship Award, sponsored by Ontario Power Generation. The award is presented to the organization that best exemplifies environmentally sustainable operations through their normal course of business and in day-to-day operations.

For Waste Reduction Week, Randy Mehagan, Manager of Housekeeping, TBRHSC had a booth set up displaying some of the ways TBRHSC is reducing waste through a very successful 3R’s program which has allowed the facility to divert over 320,000 kilograms or 27% of waste from landfill in 2014.

Shannon Costigan, Program Coordinator for EcoSuperior Environmental Programs also had a booth at TBHRSC to promote Waste Reduction Week.
