Construction and Parking Update: Starting March 31

Starting Monday, March 31, several key areas around the Main Entrance and Renal Entrance at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) will not be available due to construction readiness for the Cardiovascular Surgery Program. These changes are temporary and are essential to support the expansion and improvement of our Hospital.
Please take note of the following important updates:
- Main and Renal Entrances: Both the Main Entrance (at the revolving doors) and Renal Entrance will be closed for the duration of the construction project. To enter the Hospital, please use the West Entrance (see map). Dialysis Aides will be stationed at the West Entrance to assist renal patients who are accessing the Renal department.
- Roadway Access and Fish (A3) Parking Lot: The Fish (A3) parking lot and the roadway in front of the Cancer Centre Entrance will be closed until mid to late June.
- Pick-up and drop-off locations: Temporary pick-up and drop-off will be re-located to the roundabout in front of the Medical Centre building (next to the West entrance). Please follow posted signage as this will be one-way traffic only to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow. Security will be posted to assist with wayfinding and ensure the flow of traffic.
- Eagle (A1) Parking Lot East Gate: The East Gate (gate closest to the Medical Centre building) of the A1 parking lot will be closed for the duration of the construction.
- Information on bus scheduling (Electronic bus sign): The electronic bus sign has been temporarily relocated to an area adjacent to the West Entrance.
Parking Reminder
- The Bear (B1) parking lot will remain closed throughout the construction process. Please Use Moose (B2) and Eagle (A1) visitor parking lots. Accessible parking spots remain close to the Hospital and are located in the Eagle (A1) lot.
- The Fish (A3) parking lot will be closed until mid to late June.
- Coyote (C2), Squirrel (C1) and Deer (D) lots are designated for patients accessing the Emergency Department, and Labour and Delivery ONLY. Please note that other areas of the Hospital are not accessible through these entrances.
- Parking in any of our visitor lots is FREE for usage lasting 15 minutes or less. Simply provide your ticket upon exit, and the gate will open without asking for payment.
- When drop off / pick up zones are congested, parking in Moose (B2) provides a great option while waiting.
Please refer to this map for parking lot locations. We kindly ask that all patients and families plan ahead and allow extra time for parking.
For everyone’s safety, please adhere to all construction fencing, barricades, and safety signs. The construction site will be clearly marked, and all unauthorized personnel are restricted from entering construction areas. We encourage everyone to use designated walkways and stay alert while navigating around the construction zones.
As we move through the stages of construction, there will be ongoing adjustments to Hospital parking. Please keep an eye on our social media pages and on our website at www.tbrhsc.net for the latest and most accurate information.
We know that with construction comes inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and patience as we move forward with this important project bringing cardiovascular surgery to Northwestern Ontario, and closer to home for patients and families. We will continue to provide updates as construction progresses.
