For National Perfusion Week (May 1-5), we would like to recognize two people who will be working as Cardiovascular Perfusionists at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) when our Cardiovascular Surgery Program is up and running. This program is a joint partnership between TBRHSC and the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC)/University Health Network (UHN) to deliver comprehensive cardiovascular care to the residents of Northwestern Ontario.

Surgical Remote Patient Monitoring – A Game-Changer in Patient Care

The impact the pandemic has had on reshaping health care is undeniable. With expanding the use of digital platforms and health technologies, innovation has improved the health care experience for both patients and providers. One example is the Surgical Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) team at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC), who is using a web-based platform to offer pre- and post-operative health care to patients from wherever they connect to the internet.

New Portable Dental X-ray Unit “Magical”

Sometimes what the dentist can see during an exam is literally just the tip of what’s happening underneath. That’s why X-rays are the standard of care for patients. However, many patients including some in Critical Care (ICU), oncology, and cardiac are not mobile enough leave their room. Now, thanks in part to a Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation Family CARE Grant, those X-rays will come to them.
