TBRHSC Board Chair’s Report (February 2025)

I would like to begin my first report of 2025 by expressing gratitude to our incredible staff, professional staff, volunteers and learners for their hard work over the holidays. The holiday season is typically a very busy time for our Emergency Department and with the influx of respiratory illnesses, these past couple of months were no exception to previous years. Thank you for your dedication to providing the highest quality care to the people of Northwestern Ontario.

Emergency Department Update

February 4, 2025

Our Emergency Department (ED) continues to experience high volumes of patients. As patients are seen based on an assessment of individual illness this will likely mean longer than normal wait times for those that have less severe emergencies.

Board of Directors / Conseil d’administration

January 21, 2025

The Board of Directors invites interested Northwestern Ontario residents to consider serving as members of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Board of Directors or its Board Committees. Successful candidates are expected to participate actively in governance activities for a three-year term.

National Ribbon Skirt Day

January 4, 2025

January 4 is National Ribbon Skirt Day. Indigenous Ribbon Skirts are vibrant symbols of identity, resilience, and tradition among Indigenous Peoples on Turtle Island.

Patient Family Advisors at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, alongside front line staff, physicians and administrative staff, have developed a framework for incorporating co-design into the care delivered at our Hospital.

Co-Design Development: Building the Future Together

As part of the Patient Experience strategic priority in Strategic Plan 2026, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) has begun the design and implementation of a co-design framework. This framework aims to foster a shared understanding of co-design among staff, patients, and families, ensuring it becomes a cornerstone of how we deliver care.

Lakehead Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic: Caring for Our Community

Lack of access to a family doctor is a common concern for patients living across Ontario. To support those who require a primary care provider, the Lakehead Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic (LNPLC) is providing comprehensive, accessible and coordinated care to unattached patients (those without a primary care provider) living in our community. Patients are connected to care in a more seamless manner, instead of having to search for a primary care provider through other avenues, such as the emergency department or walk-in clinics.
