On Monday, October 26, staff at Notre-Dame Hospital were on hand to accept a grant for $8,500 from the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation to fund the purchase of a new triple channel infusion pump for chemotherapy patients. The grant was made possible thanks to donors to the Northern Cancer Fund.

“Today marks the continuation of substantial support from donors to exceptional cancer care services in Hearst and we are incredibly grateful for this grant,” said Lynda Morin, Chief Nursing Officer, Notre Dame Hospital. “With the addition of this infusion pump, we will be able to better accommodate patients who require chemotherapy at the same time, all in an environment that’s familiar and close to home.”

The grant represents an ongoing commitment by the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation to provide exceptional cancer care for patients in Hearst and surrounding communities. Previously, between 2002 and 2014, $56,157 was provided to Notre-Dame Hospital to fund chemotherapy equipment, a bio fume hood, a Tandberg unit for Telemedicine, along with a patient stretcher and vital sign monitor. This new grant brings the 14-year total of investments to $64,657. None of it would have been possible without the community’s continued support of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, and, in particular, the Northern Cancer Fund.

“Our donors are the heroes who make these investments come to life,” said Glenn Craig, President and CEO, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. “We’re honoured to be the charity of choice amongst individuals and businesses in our region who believe passionately about the gift of exceptional healthcare in Northwestern Ontario. Recently, Tbaytel made a significant gift that extended their already very generous support of healthcare in our region, and it is thanks to them, and many other donors that the Health Sciences Foundation can provide funding for critical equipment purchases, like the infusion pump that was announced today.”

“Tbaytel is very proud to support the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation and the Northern Cancer Fund and we are thrilled to help provide this much needed chemotherapy equipment,” said Tbaytel President and CEO Dan Topatigh. “We are committed to supporting the people and organizations helping to create strong, healthy and vibrant communities and our support of this grant is the perfect example of how that commitment is being made a reality.”

The Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation is proud to raise funds that 100% dedicated to providing exceptional cancer care for residents of Northwestern Ontario.
