On Friday, October 23, staff at the Atikokan General Hospital were on hand to accept a grant for $8,500 from the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation to fund the purchase of a triple channel infusion pump needed for patients receiving chemotherapy. The grant was made possible thanks to donors to the Northern Cancer Fund.

“Atikokan General Hospital’s chemotherapy program continues to deliver exceptional cancer care in partnership with Regional Cancer Care Northwest,” said Susan Sampson, Telemedicine and Chemotherapy Coordinator, Atikokan General Hospital. “With help from the Health Sciences Foundation in 2014, we were able to significantly upgrade our chemotherapy suite with a new treatment chair and fridge for storing chemotherapy medications. This new grant will enable us to provide up-to-date, safe and dedicated equipment for cancer patients, which enhances the quality and safety of the care we provide.”

“Our donors are the heroes who make these investments come to life,” said Glenn Craig, President and CEO, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. “We’re honoured to be the charity of choice amongst individuals and businesses in our region who believe passionately about the gift of exceptional healthcare in Northwestern Ontario. Recently, Tbaytel made a significant gift that extended their already very generous support of healthcare in our region, and it is thanks to them, and many other donors that the Health Sciences Foundation can provide funding for critical equipment purchases, like the infusion pump that was announced today.”

“Tbaytel is very proud to support the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation and the Northern Cancer Fund and we are thrilled to help provide this much needed chemotherapy equipment,” said Tbaytel President and CEO Dan Topatigh. “We are committed to supporting the people and organizations helping to create strong, healthy and vibrant communities and our support of this grant is the perfect example of how that commitment is being made a reality.”

The Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation is proud to raise funds that 100% dedicated to providing exceptional cancer care for residents of Northwestern Ontario.
