Why choose a career in healthcare?
Young people in their final years of high school who have not yet decided on a career choice or those considering a second career in healthcare are invited to attend a Clinical Careers Open House on Monday, April 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., hosted by Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC).
Representatives from the various departments and clinical professions that work at TBRHSC will be on hand to answer questions about what it is like to have a career in healthcare.
Representatives from post-secondary institutions will also be available to answer questions about healthcare program options and admission requirements.
“We want to expose students to the fact that healthcare professionals are not only doctors and nurses,” says Shari MacKenzie, Human Resources Officer. “There are many other professions within a healthcare setting including dietitians, radiation therapists and lab technicians, as well as trades people, biomedical technicians and IT personnel just to name a few.”
As baby boomers retire, there is a growing demand for skilled professionals in many areas of healthcare. Job prospects for many health professionals in Ontario are excellent and demand for healthcare services is only expected to increase.
“With this event, we want to provide valuable information about healthcare in general and at TBRHSC, as well as spark an interest in those who attend to pursue a healthcare career choice,” says MacKenzie. “Healthcare will continue to be an industry in demand and we want TBRHSC to be an employer of choice in Thunder Bay.”
With nearly 2,700 employees, TBRHSC is Thunder Bay’s major employer and was recently named one of Canada’sTop 10 Corporate Cultures.
Whether you are currently completing a healthcare-related program or exploring healthcare as a career, this event will provide you with all the information you will need to make an informed decision.
