COVID-19 Update: Statement From Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre
by Communications & Engagement
With sorrow, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre confirms the death of a patient admitted to our Hospital who was COVID-19 positive. Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends, and anyone who is affected by this heartbreaking loss.
This is the first COVID-19 related death in Northwestern Ontario. This sad development will weigh heavily on people across our region. We all hoped that our community would be spared. We now hope for no more deaths related to COVID-19. Please, stay home if you can.
Our thoughts are also with Hospital staff and professional staff, particularly those in the Intensive Care Unit, who provided outstanding care to this patient.
The health and safety of all patients, staff, professional staff and the community remains our utmost priority. We will continue to prioritize our COVID-19 pandemic plan with the goal of keeping everyone safe so that no one else loses a loved one to this cruel virus.
We are encouraged by the status of a separate patient infected with the COVID-19 virus. Due to improved condition, the patient has moved from the Intensive Care Unit to receive care in the COVID-19 Care Unit. Currently, there are two patients with confirmed COVID-19 receiving care in our Hospital.
