Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS2)

Training on this document is required for all individuals involved in research at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC). TCPS2 was developed in 2001, by Canada's three federal research agencies, CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC as part of a collaborative effort to promote the ethical conduct of research involving human participants. The Research Program ensures researchers have completed this training, and retains their training certificates. The training must be completed online at: https://tcps2core.ca/login. Completed certificates can be sent to the Research Program at researchprogram@tbh.net.

Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI): Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

This training is required for all individuals involved in Health Canada regulated clinical trials at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC). GCP details the standards of scientific quality and best practices for designing, conducting, recording and reporting clinical trials that involve human participants. The Research Program ensures researchers have completed this training, and retains their training certificates. The training must be completed online, with refreshers every two years, at: https://www.citiprogram.org/index.cfm?pageID=14. Completed certificates can be sent to the Research Program at researchprogram@tbh.net.

Note: The CITI Program offers many courses for TBRHSC researchers to benefit from, including:

  • Canada GCP or GCP Refresher (Mandatory for Health Canada regulated clinical trials)
  • Health Canada Division 5 – Drugs For Clinical Trials Involving Human Subjects
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods TDG/IATA – Canada
  • The Biomedical Research Ethics Tutorial – Canada
