Stroke Education

The Northwestern Ontario (NWO) Regional Stroke Network Education Fund was established with funding provided by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. The purpose of the fund is to assist health care providers working in stroke care across the continuum to incorporate best practices through learning opportunities or projects focused on evidence based practices in stroke care.

Acute Stroke Best Practices Workshop – Advancing Best Practices in Acute Stroke Care

Overview: The focus of the workshop is on acute stroke and advancing best practices in stroke care. Interprofessional members of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) stroke team will present on a variety of topics pertaining to acute stroke.

Case studies and Audience Response Technology will be incorporated throughout the workshop.

Target Audience: Nurses who provide direct care to people with stroke in the acute care setting. Other health care providers with this focus; as well as nurses working in other settings, with an interest in stroke care in the acute care setting are invited to attend.

  • Management of Acute Stroke
  • Understanding Diagnostic Imaging pertaining to stroke and TIA
  • Nursing Care of the Acute Stroke Patient
  • Secondary Stroke Prevention
  • New Northwestern Ontario TIA Triage Toolkit
