Acute Stroke Best Practices Workshop – Advancing Best Practices in Acute Stroke Care
Overview: The focus of the workshop is on acute stroke and advancing best practices in stroke care. Interprofessional members of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) stroke team will present on a variety of topics pertaining to acute stroke.
Case studies and Audience Response Technology will be incorporated throughout the workshop.
Target Audience: Nurses who provide direct care to people with stroke in the acute care setting. Other health care providers with this focus; as well as nurses working in other settings, with an interest in stroke care in the acute care setting are invited to attend.
Topics will include:
- Management of Acute Stroke
- Understanding Diagnostic Imaging pertaining to stroke and TIA
- Nursing Care of the Acute Stroke Patient
- Secondary Stroke Prevention
- New Northwestern Ontario TIA Triage Toolkit
- Visual Deficits
- Aphasia
- Dysphagia Assessment & Resulting Outcomes & Strategies
- Tips for patient and family education
