New Monument Celebrates Healthcare History

Built in the 1930s on an ancient escarpment overlooking Lake Superior, the Port Arthur General Hospital served residents until its closure in 2004, when the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre opened. When it was demolished in 2010, a former Registered Nurse from the Hospital, Shirley King, asked construction workers to save three stone blocks that graced the lake view of the building.

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Launches Groundbreaking Pilot Project to Improve Opioid Prescribing

Opioid digital order sets were launched this month at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC). The groundbreaking pilot project aims to improve outcomes for patients who require post-operative pain management. The new opioid order set, developed by a working group including staff from TBRHSC supports addressing the opioid crisis.

New Clinic Supports Equitable Access to Care

Mandated by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and in partnership with the North West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), the adoption of “Rapid Access Clinics” (RAC) combines the Regional Joint Assessment Centre (hip and knee) and Inter-Professional Spine Assessment and Education (lower back pain) clinics. The central intake, assessment and management model of the RAC have proven benefits to both patients and providers.

New Scientist Joins Health Research Institute and Lakehead University

Dr. Jinqiang Hou will be joining the Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute on Monday, October 1st, 2018, as a Lakehead University-Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute Research Chair. Dr. Hou will also be an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Lakehead University.

Northern Supply Chain Continues to Expand to the Benefit of Patients and Families
