Celebrating our Volunteers

Marga Bond has been a Patent Family Advisor (PFA) at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) since November 2009. She decided to become a PFA after spending time with her mother while she was in hospital. “I recognized that there were opportunities to do things in a more effective and efficient way, that would allow staff more time for other tasks and responsibilities,” she says. “I saw an opportunity to be involved in making improvements within the hospital.”
Marga is married with two sons who are married and has “two wonderful grandsons” aged 12 and 6. Now retired, Marga worked many years as an Administrative Assistant, then as a Senior Secretary and, following retirement, she went on to do food demonstrations and sales.
I saw an opportunity to be involved in making improvements within the hospital,” says Marga Bond, Patient Family Advisor at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Since becoming a PFA, Marga has worked on many different committees and assisted with a variety of projects such as hiring panels for leadership positions; the Accreditation Committee; Patient Flow Strategy; reviewing and editing of documents; and the Surgical Checklist Committee. Marga has participated in the PFA Council, PFCC Leadership Council, Strategic Planning, and Health Links. She has also represented TBRHSC on a committee of the North West Local Health Integration Network.
More recently Marga became a member of the TBRHSC Senior Management Council (SMC) where she gains insight into how and why decisions are made in the organization. “I have a better appreciation as to how decisions are made and how unique TBRHSC is in terms of location, geography, and patient population.”
One of the things Marga really appreciates is the openness of SMC to discuss any topic with the PFAs present. “I feel that my input and participation is valued and appreciated.”
