The Linda Buchan Centre for Breast Screening and Assessment at our Hospital is designed to streamline breast imaging so that patients receive timely follow-up and diagnosis. Patients who have had a breast cancer screening mammogram through the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) may be referred for follow-up at the Linda Buchan Centre if they have an abnormal mammogram result. Patients may also be referred by their health care provider for a mammogram and other tests.Once a requisition is received, all required imaging and procedures are booked quickly, with some scheduled within the same day.
It is important to note that a referral to the Linda Buchan Centre does not necessarily mean that an individual has breast cancer.
If a biopsy is required, the patient navigator calls the patient to explain the procedure, provide support, and answer any questions throughout the testing process.
Linda Buchan Breast Screening and Assessment Centre:
- Offers screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds and image-guided biopsies.
- Provides services to individuals from across Northwestern Ontario.
- Is an accredited site for the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP).
About Linda Buchan
Linda Buchan was a strong advocate in the fight against breast cancer. She was a Northern Cancer Research Foundation (NCRF) board member and the founder of the Bearskin Airline Hope Classic. In celebration of Linda’s life and achievements, the Breast Screening and Assessment Centre at our Hospital was named in her honour.

The Linda Buchan Centre offers digital mammography, breast ultrasound, and image-guided breast biopsies, as well as patient support and education. These services enable early detection and accurate diagnosis.
Where is the Linda Buchan Centre located?
The Linda Buchan Centre is located in the Diagnostic Imaging Department at our Hospital. Women from across Northwestern Ontario can access the Linda Buchan Centre. While in Thunder Bay, women can stay at the Tbaytel Tamarack House.
