#TeamStaal2017 Contestants Announced; One Extra Spot Up for Grabs

Players compete in the 2016 Pandora Intercity Summer Classic
Players compete in the 2016 Pandora Intercity Summer Classic. Contestants are now competing for one of five spots to be won in the Fountain Tire Summer Classic. One final spot will be awarded by Fountain Tire on June 11 as part of a skills/luck competition.

The competition to play on #teamstaal2017 this July 10, in the Fountain Tire Summer Classic at the Staal Foundation Open Presented by Tbaytel, was intense. Following just over three weeks of competition between kids ages 9-14 to showcase their best street hockey moves in a video, the Top 15 videos (as determined by number of votes) have been selected, with each contestant moving on to the next stage of the #teamstaal2017 challenge.

Starting tomorrow, each contestant will be challenged to fundraise for the Northern Cancer Fund to support families and children battling cancer. Contestants will have until June 9 at 9 a.m. to fundraise as much as they can, with the top 3 fundraisers guaranteed a spot to play on #teamstaal2017 with Eric, Jordan, Marc and Jared Staal, along with other past and present NHL stars, (like Bobby Orr, Grant Fuhr, Carter Hutton and more), Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada players and TSN personalities in an epic road hockey game. The remaining 2 players will be randomly drawn from remaining contestants. As long as each contestant raises a minimum of $20, they will be entered. With every $20 raised, they will receive a ballot for the draw. Team members will be announced on June 9.

Lindsay Doran, e-Philanthropy Officer, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation says, “We’re pleased to announce that each contestant has an individual, online fundraising page they can share with friends, family and our community to help them fundraise.”

With great fanfare, our contestants are: Troy Brown, Spencer Bryson, Keaton Cristofaro, Kain Cristofaro, Jadan Desormeaux, Ethen Friesen, Erica Geddes, Hunter Marshall, Ahmed Mercan, Campbell Mitchell, Edelweiss Price, Aidan Somerfield, Thomas Stadey, Steven Stadey, and Conley Trevisanutto.

Support one or more of our #teamstaal2017 contestants starting Friday, May 26 with your donation at www.healthsciencesfoundation.ca/teamstaal. Receipts available for donations of $20 or more.

With 5 spots to be filled, there still remains one spot up for grabs and thanks to Fountain Tire, one more lucky child will have the chance to join #teamstaal2017. On Sunday, June 11 at 1 p.m., Fountain Tire will host an exciting event to choose the final member of #teamstaal2017.

At the event, which is open to kids aged 9-14, there will be a variety of challenges to complete, with points being awarded at each challenge. Featuring a mixture of hockey and golf skills, plus a dose of luck, it will be exciting to watch. Come see as kids take on road hockey shooting, ladder golf, Frisbee ‘curling’ and much more. The winner will be chosen randomly from the top 3 points earners that day.

Registration is limited to the first 50 entries which may be done through Fountain Tire’s Facebook page (facebook.com/FountainTireThunderBay). Each registration will be entered to win a $100 gift card graciously provided by Fountain Tire. As Jeff Hunter, Assistant Manager at Fountain Tire says, “This is the final chance to be a member of #teamstaal2017 and play with the Staals and many other celebrities – the opportunity of a lifetime! We can’t wait to watch this event on July 10.”
