Donors across Northwestern Ontario continue to provide HOPE and exceptional cancer care services thanks to donations to the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. Today it was announced that Lake of the Woods District Hospital was the recipient of a grant in the amount of $998 for two iPads.

“The nurses and patients greatly appreciate the ongoing support provided by the Northern Cancer Fund,” said Heather Medaglia, Patient Care Manager, Outpatient Services, Lake of the Woods District Hospital. “The iPads provide more access and communication for the patients regarding their treatment and symptoms. These devices help to provide increase quality of care for the patients closer to home. We are extremely fortunate to have these types of programs in the northern communities in order to receive the appropriate equipment that meets patient needs. Furthermore, our chemotherapy department’s vision is to provide excellent care and having the support from the Northern Cancer Fund helps us get closer to our goal.”

Glenn Craig, President & CEO, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation remarked, “Donors to the Northern Cancer Fund truly embody the word exceptional. They ensure that we are able to continue to strengthen our region’s cancer program and provide exceptional cancer care close to home at 13 sites across Northwestern Ontario. Most importantly, they allow patients to have hope as they receive treatment. The new iPads will be a fantastic addition to the already wonderful services that cancer patients can find in Kenora.”

This grant represents an ongoing commitment by donors to the Northern Cancer Fund to provide exceptional cancer care for patients receiving care at Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Previously, between 2004 and 2016, $131,518.06 was committed to the Hospital to fund new cancer care equipment. This new grant brings the 13-year total of investments to $132,516.06. None of it would have been possible without the community’s continued support of the Northern Cancer Fund.
