Title: Hyperacute & Acute Stroke Care:
Updates From the 2018 Stroke Best Practice Recommendations
Date: Monday, January 28, 2019
Time: 16:00 – 17:00 EST
Presenter: Eric Smith, MD MPH FRCPC FAHA
Objectives: Upon completion of the program participants will be able to:
  1. Develop collaborative approaches toward assessment and management of patients with suspected stroke in the pre-hospital and Emergency Department setting.
  2. Discuss current best practices regarding team-based hyperacute stroke management in the first 24 hours after symptom onset, including the use of tPA (alteplase) and endovascular therapy/mechanical thrombectomy (EVT).
  3. Understand how to access Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke Care.
The Canadian Stroke Consortium is pleased to partner with Heart and Stroke Canada to host this webinar dedicated to the recently updated 2018 Canadian Stroke Best Practice Recommendations addressing hyperacute and acute stroke care. These Recommendations provide specific guidance for healthcare professionals on the management of stroke from the point of symptom onset, with an emphasis on the need for coordinated and collaborative approaches to patient care in the pre-hospital setting, in the Emergency Department, and when organizing and deploying hyperacute treatments, such as tPA and endovascular therapy.
During this webinar, participants will learn more about the recommendations, research, and practical approaches for the management of patients in the critical minutes and hours after stroke onset. The target audience is healthcare providers across all disciplines involved in stroke care, as well as stroke system leaders. Participants will hear directly from experts in this area and have an opportunity to ask questions. There is no charge to attend.
