Northern Supply Chain Recognized as Canadian Supply Chain Organization of the Year

The Northern Supply Chain (NSC) at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre was recently announced as the Canadian Supply Chain Organization of the Year.The Northern Supply Chain (NSC) at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre was recently announced as the Canadian Supply Chain Organization of the Year by Healthcare Supply Chain Network (HSCN) for demonstrated excellence in relevant traits of teamwork, innovation, customer service, patient care and strategic planning in their daily operations.
The NSC collaboration was established in 2011 as a joint venture sponsored by the Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Care Group. Its mandate is to provide a central supply chain to member organizations that benefit from a consolidated, strategic approach to sourcing in order to achieve value driven outcomes, standardization and quality.
“We are very pleased with this prestigious national award and the recognition it brings to the significant work, growth and results that our staff have accomplished,” said Derek Gascoigne, General Manager, NSC. “As one of the younger shared service organizations in Canada, we are continually expanding our services and footprint so that we may offer substantially greater value to our members while enhancing the profession of supply chain management not only in the north, but across Canada.”
With a new strategic plan under development, NSC will be looking for further opportunities to grow, with a focus on assisting Indigenous communities while solidifying its existing member base.
“Our data analytics will remain a key driver in our future successes while continuing to operate as one of the leanest supply chain programs in the market,” said Gascoigne. “Our team is very dedicated to our mandate. I’m very proud of the significant financial savings that we’ve been able to achieve which amount to enhanced value for children, youth, clients, patients, and families across Ontario.”
HSCN is an industry association of supplier and provider professionals with the goal of improving the effectiveness of Canada’s healthcare supply chain. The Supply Chain Organization of the Year Award will be presented to the Northern Supply Chain at the 2019 HSCN National Conference Awards Night on May 14th, 2019.
