Knowledge to Action: How the iWalk Toolkit can Improve Walking Assessment Post-Stroke

This webinar will be of interest to physiotherapists who administer walk tests, interpret test performance, educate patients, and set goals.

Learning objectives:

  1. To describe a toolkit designed to help physiotherapists adopt an evidence-informed approach to using the 10-metre and 6-minute walk tests post-stroke

  3. To summarize the benefits and challenges of using the iWalk Toolkit post-stroke based on a 9-site study conducted in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient settings.

Speaker

Dr. Nancy Salbach is a physical therapist, Associate Professor, and Heart and Stroke Foundation Mid-Career Investigator in the Department of Physical Therapy, at the University of Toronto. She has published more than 70 research articles and obtained over $6 million in funding. Dr. Salbach’s knowledge translation research has focused on exploring the influence of facilitation, and guideline implementation tools on advancing stroke rehabilitation practice; and the implementation of task-oriented community exercise programs for older adults with balance and mobility limitations. Dr. Salbach has expertise with cluster randomized trials, process evaluations, systematic and scoping reviews, measurement, and multi-level modeling. She co-chairs the writing group to update the Canadian Stroke Best Practice Recommendations.
