New Research Project of Hand Function Following Stroke Begins in Thunder Bay

Researchers at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute and St. Joseph’s Care Group are conducting a hand rehabilitation study to investigate changes in the muscle and hand function after a six-week hand training class.
Following a stroke, hand function is often affected. A new research study offers a low-cost alternative which in the future, could result in simple improvement from the patient’s own home. A specially designed device will be tested in a community based exercise regime designed to improve a persons use of their hands. During the 6 week program, tests of hand function and muscle function will be assessed. Feedback will also be sought from the participants of the study about their experience.
