Public Awareness
All members of the public should be aware that stroke is a medical emergency. The public needs to recognize the signs of stroke, know how to seek medical attention and understand the urgency of stroke. Education of the public is the responsibility of many levels of service providers, from government and health system leaders to healthcare providers, educators, and health organizations.
The NWORSN participates in public awareness initiatives to promote Stroke Awareness and Action such as the signs of stroke, FAST (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) acronym, need to respond immediately by calling 9-1-1 or local emergency number, and provision of education on the risk factors of stroke.
