Prevention

Stroke prevention includes primary and secondary prevention of stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA). Primary prevention focuses on the prevention of an initial stroke and/or TIA. Secondary stroke prevention focuses on the prevention of a recurrent stroke and TIA across the stroke continuum of care.

Healthcare providers work with patients and families to identify risk factors, agree on goals for prevention of a stroke, and implement appropriate management strategies.

The NWORSN participates in stroke prevention initiatives involving healthcare providers, policy makers, individuals with stroke, their families and caregivers, and the public.
