Signs of Stroke
- Stroke is a medical emergency. Most people do not recognize the signs and symptoms of stroke and therefore do not seek immediate medical attention. It is critical that all people with strokes arrive in the emergency department as soon as possible, as earlier assessment and treatment may allow time for life-saving intervention.
- Treatment for stroke is time sensitive the longer the delay before treatment the greater the risk of permanent brain damage and more impairment.
- People who experience a TIA are also considered a medical emergency and require rapid assessment and treatment.
