Risk Factors

Certain factors increase your risk for stroke. Some factors you cannot control; age, gender, family history, ethnicity and previous stroke or TIA.

Risk factors you can control include: high blood pressure, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, being overweight, smoking, excess alcohol and physical inactivity.
