DESCRIPTION:Register Here\n\nUnderstanding Indigenous Women & Gender-diverse People’s Health Experiences through a Culturally-Relevant and Gender-Based Lens\nCo-hosted by the Native Women’s Association of Canada\n\n \n\n\nDate February 19th\,\n\n\n\nTime 12pm – 1:30pm EST\n \n\nPresenters Dr. Bernice Downey\, Indigenous Early Career Chair in Women’s Heart & Brain Health and Marya Jaleel & Kim Wakeford – Native Women’s Association of\n\n\n\n\nLearning objectives \n\n\n\nBy participating in this session\, participants will: \n\n1) Learn about the Native Women’s Association of Canada’s culturally-relevant and gender-based analysis (CRGBA) and how it can be applied. \n\n2) Become aware of pre-colonization concepts of health and wellness; how colonization and assimilation efforts affected the health of communities; the current social and political realities for Indigenous communities; and strategies and responses for working with Indigenous women and gender-diverse people to improve health outcomes. \n\n3) Learn about concepts such as intergenerational trauma; differences between the social determinants of health and Indigenous determinants of health; as well as stigma and discrimination and how these experiences contribute to negative health outcomes for Indigenous women and gender-diverse people. \n\n4) Hear about examples of this work in practice. \n\nAs a result of this workshop\, participants will learn to apply a culturally-relevant and gender-based lens to the work that they do.
