Diagnostic Assessment Programs – Breast
The Linda Buchan Centre for Breast Screening and Assessment at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is designed to streamline the testing process for breast cancer so that patients can get a diagnosis faster. Patients who have had breast screening (a mammogram) through the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) will be referred for follow up after an abnormal mammogram. Patients may also be referred by their primary care provider (family physician, nurse practitioner, etc.) or other healthcare provider for a mammogram and other tests.
It is important to note that a referral to the Linda Buchan Centre does not necessarily mean that individual has breast cancer.
There are many different testing procedures depending on your particular circumstances. The team at the Linda Buchan Centre will plan all tests and book appointments, and explain each test to you. Patient Navigators are also available to provide support and information, and answer any questions throughout the testing process.
